Travel Galapagos
Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection started with his journey aboard the HMS Beagle in the 1830’s to South America. During the journey Darwin collected the fossils of extinct mammals and noted the slight variations in species from region to region.
These discoveries were highlighted by the distinct variation in species he encountered amongst the various Galapagos Islands. These lead to the insights that formed Darwin’s famous theory.
Today on the island of Santa Cruz, the Charles Darwin Research Station continues to provide insight into the origin of the species and conservation of the amazing animal, bird and plant life on Galapagos.
