Day 1 QuitoTravel to Quito and discover this vibrant city resting beneath Volcan Pichincha. Explore the picturesque streets and cobblestone alleys on a walking tour. The many churches, cathedrals and colonial mansions reflect the history of the region and are well worth exploring further. Days 2-3 Isla San CristobalHead off to San Cristobal Island in the Galapagos Archipelago. Saddle up on mountain bikes for a ride around the island, stopping at the Interpretation Center to learn about the history of the Galapagos Islands. The next day, visit Isla de Lobos and Cerro Brujo Beach to observe blue-footed boobies. Take to the sea and swim or snorkel with playful sea lions or opt to go diving for a deeper look into the Galapagos. Days 4-6 Isla Floreana/Isla IsabelaGlimpse dolphins frolicking in the waves and experience some of the Galapagos's best diving and snorkelling at Isla Floreana, also home to pink flamingos, sea turtles and a diverse range of sea birds. Get a bird's-eye view of this magical landscape from Sierra Negra volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the region. Visit the breeding centre of the giant tortoise and peek into the Galapagos's penal past at the convict-built Wall of Tears. Travel to Tintoreras by dinghy for a spot of snorkelling. Days 7-8 Isla Santa CruzGreet the day kayaking in pristine waters in search of the Galapagos penguin and other wonderful creatures, before making tracks to Isla Santa Cruz. Visit the interesting and informative Charles Darwin Research Station to meet the breeds of tortoises and land iguanas brought back from the brink of extinction, then head to the white sands of Tortuga Bay to swim and see the quirky marine iguanas playing in the breakers. Day 9 QuitoFarewell the majesty of the Galapagos Islands and return to the mainland on a flight back to hypnotic Quito. Enjoy free time to revel in the nightlife of this enchanting city. Sample traditional fare at a local eatery or street stall for a final taste of Ecuadorian cuisine. Hit the markets to pick up colourful souvenirs. Day 10 LimaTravel to Peru and arrive in the country's seaside capital. With churches, palaces and ornate colonial mansions, Lima is a great city to explore by foot. Day 11 CuzcoOne of the Andes' most charming cities, Cuzco overflows with Spanish-colonial buildings and the ruins of ancient temples. Day 12 Sacred Valley/OllantaytamboTravel through the farming land and small villages of the Sacred Valley. Spend the night in the historic town of Ollantaytambo. Days 13-16 Inca Trail/Machu Picchu/CuzcoSet off on an unforgettable Inca Trail tour along the ancient paths of the Incan Empire. The trek takes in ruins, mountain scenery and rich subtropical jungle. On the final morning, climb the steps to Intipunku, the Sun Gate, and feel an immense sense of satisfaction at having conquered the Inca Trail. Machu Picchu, rising from the morning mist in all its glory, is a sight that will not soon be forgotten. Rest weary legs on the return train trip to Cuzco. Day 17 CuzcoRelax at a cafe in Cuzco's Plaza de Armas and make a toast to an unforgettable Galapagos and Inca Trail adventure.
