Day 1 Quito/Estancia StayStart the adventure with a guided walking tour of Quito. This spectacular city is spread across a narrow valley with volcanoes surrounding it on almost every side. See colonial meet indigenous in the elegant old town and visit markets to try a rainbow of fresh fruit juices. The markets offer great insight into local life. Mingle with Ecuadorians as they buy and sell meat, seafood, flowers, medicinal plants and handicrafts from the coastal regions. Later, travel by minivan to an estancia, which will be home for the night. Learn the ins and outs of life on the land from welcoming hosts before a delicious meal of local specialties. Fall asleep surrounded by the sounds of the Ecuadorian outback. Day 2 Otavalo Market/QuitoHead to Otavalo to discover the secrets of one of Ecuador's most important indigenous markets. Since pre-Inca times Otavalo has been an important trading centre. These days, hundreds of people from the surrounding villages descend on the town once a week to sell everything from handmade goods to livestock, fruit and vegetables. Enjoy a guided tour of the markets and get an up-close look at Otavalo's colourful culture and trading history. There's plenty of time to bargain for souvenirs and be sure to have cameras ready - photo opportunities seem to be around every corner. While here, don't miss stopping at one of the many small restaurants for a delicious local meal. Return to Quito in the afternoon where the adventure sadly comes to an end. Perhaps end the adventure with a final stroll through the capital's atmospheric streets.
