Day 1 QuitoGet a feel for Ecuadorian life on a stroll around Quito's quaint Old Town, exploring some of its many churches, brightly painted colonial buildings and fascinating museums. One of the most attractive cities in South America, Quito sits at an altitude of 2,850 m and winds its way through a valley that eventually drops down to the Amazon Basin. Days 2-4 Amazon JungleJourney into the dense Amazon Jungle for an unforgettable stay at an eco lodge in the upper Amazon Basin, a location that, due to its proximity to the Andes, is rich in tropical, humid forests - one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. Travel by canoe to a butterfly farm and learn about the life cycle of some of the hundreds of colourful species living in the surrounding rainforest. Visit an indigenous Quichua family to find out about their culture and traditions - be shown how to use a serbatana, a hunting blowpipe, or how to prepare chicha, a traditional drink made from the cassava plant. Take guided walks through the jungle's secondary forests and learn how local plants are used for medicinal purposes. Discover Las Latas, a breathtaking waterfall and a great spot for a swim. Enjoy a relaxing wallow in the crystal clear water to the tune of exotic birds and creatures echoing through the surrounding forest. Days 5-6 QuitoHead back to Quito for a final night in Ecuador.
