| Overview |
Straddling the border of Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazu Falls stretch close to 3 km and this adventure provides opportunities to see both the panoramic views and the adrenaline-rushing up-close-and-wet version. Day 1 Arrive Iguazu FallsTake an airport transfer to the hotel, then spend the day relaxing or exploring the surrounding area. Days 2-3 Iguazu FallsThe magnificent Iguazu Falls gave birth to a popular legend: a serpent god intended to marry a beautiful girl called Naipi. She escaped in a canoe with her mortal lover Caroba and in a jealous rage the god chased them, collapsing the river before them so that Naipi plunged over the falls to become a rock, while Caroba became a tree, forever unable to touch his love. A more scientific explanation for the creation of the falls is that the Rio Iguazu flows over a riverbed of basalt that ends where the lava cooled, leaving the water to fall. On day two, join a half-day tour of the Brazilian National Park for amazing panoramic views of the falls, stretching almost 3 km long and containing over 270 separate cascades. The green jungle, thousands of butterflies, muggy heat and the roar of the falling water makes this an unforgettable experience. It's possible to take an easy walk into the canyon of the Devil's Throat where the spray reaches high above the cascading water. Spend the next day hiking the Argentine side of the falls. A train ride, a bridge walk, and a hike to the bottom all offer spectacular up-close views of the falls. For the adventurous there's the option to either take a 4x4, or rappel down, to the lower part of the falls. From here a 1,300 m path winds through the jungle and past the falls proving a look at this magnificent natural wonder from a more secluded viewpoint. Day 4 Depart Iguazu FallsEnjoy free time before leaving the magic of the Iguazu Falls.
