Days 1-3 MarrakechIn the company of an expert local guide embark on a walking tour through Marrakech's New and Old Towns. Between busy city streets and ancient winding alleys, get a first hand look at Morocco's everyday life, some of it unchanged for hundreds of years. Wander through souqs and learn about the different industries, stop for Moroccan sweets and coffee and pick up a memento or three. Everything from spices to carpets is for sale. Finish the day with a mint tea at a rooftop cafe overlooking Djemma el-Fna. In the evening watch the night markets come to life with snake charmers, musicians and stalls. The following day, start with a short Arabic lesson before heading off to the market to test your new language skills and buy fresh supplies for a cooking class. Discover the secrets to the various spices and ingredients used in Moroccan cooking and then learn to prepare Moroccan salads and tajine. Days 4-5 EssaouiraVisit the medieval walled port of Essaouira. This laidback artist's town was once a Portuguese trading colony and was also home to British and Jewish populations. Explore by foot and by bicycle to discover whitewashed houses with bright blue shutters, art galleries and wood workshops within the ramparts. Visit the busy fishing port and its harbour filled with colourful boats and try to catch the late afternoon fish auction. Explore the fortress ruins, take a boat trip to the rocky islands of Mogador or cycle to the nearby Berber village of Diabat, visited by Jimi Hendrix and countless hippies. Day 6 MarrakechTransfer back to Marrakech where the journey ends.
