Days 1-3 CairoDiscover Cairo's spice-filled atmosphere while browsing the Khan al-Khalili souq or relax with a stroll along the Corniche. Delve into the treasure chest that is the Egyptian Museum, home to one of the world's greatest collections of antiquities, including the impressive contents of Tutankhamun's tomb. Be awed by the mighty Pyramids and mystical Sphinx during a trip to Giza. Day 4 AswanAfter an overnight train journey to laidback Aswan, the morning is free to browse for bargains in the colourful souqs. In the afternoon, marvel at the intricate temple of Philae, see why fussy Egyptian stonemasons abandoned the Unfinished Obelisk, and gaze over Aswan High Dam, which forms the massive Lake Nasser. Days 5-7 Nile Cruise/LuxorStart early for an optional flight to Abu Simbel. In the afternoon, visit the impressive temple of Kom Ombo, and the temple of the falcon-headed sky god Horus at Edfu. Cruise down the Nile towards Luxor, which was once known as Thebes and was the capital of the Egyptian Empire. Spend the night floating down the river on the cruise ship. The sun-baked Valley of the Kings is home to a number of magnificent tombs, the temple of Queen Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. Learn about these illustrious monuments on a guided tour, then spend a final golden afternoon gazing at the dizzying spectacle of Karnaks vast terraces and papyrus-shaped columns. Day 8 CairoReturn to Cairo by air early in the morning. Take a last chance to soak up more Egyptian history or wander the colourful souqs.
