| Itinerary |
Days 1-3 Chitwan National ParkTransfer from either colourful Kathmandu or lake-side Pokhara to a lodge in Saurah, on the edge of the vast Chitwan National Park. Of all the world's remaining jungles, this is one of the most enchanting. Discover a lost world of towering trees, marshes and twisting vines, of pre-historic rhinos and lumbering elephants, of crocodiles, pythons and deer, of brilliantly coloured birds and even rare Gangetic dolphins. With plenty of time to explore at your own pace there is a range of ways to get out and experience all the jungle has to offer. Perhaps watch sunrise through the mists as you boat down the slow moving Rapti River. Be sure to keep an eye out for Marsh Muggers, crocodiles, lazing on the banks. Then, head deeper into the jungle by foot or elephant to search out the elusive Bengal tiger and shy and fuzzy sloth bears or magnificent rhinos. Bird lovers are well served with myriad colourful bird species making their home in the park. There's also time to visit the Elephant Breeding Centre or you can always get close to these beasts and help bathe them as they take a dip in the river at the end of the day's exploration. In the evening get a taste of local culture and experience a traditional dance performance by the Tharu tribe. Retire to your comfortable bungalow, built from all natural materials and complete with traditional-style thatched roof. Day 4 KathmanduAfter a final morning spent in the jungle or lazing at the lodge, head back to Kathmandu for your own sightseeing, shopping or further adventuring.
