Day 1 VaranasiThis city encapsulates colourful India. Life and death collide on the shores of the Ganges and history and culture seem imbued in the cobblestones of the narrow alleyways. Enjoy a city tour then cruise down the Ganges at night to witness a moving Aarti ceremony. Day 2 Varanasi/SarnathLearn about traditional silk weaving, then spend the afternoon at the ruins of Sarnath, where Buddha performed his first sermon. Home now to temples built by Tibetan, Chinese, Thai, Burmese and Japanese Buddhists, this is a peaceful spot to spend time and meet the local monks. Day 3 VaranasiWatch pilgrims perform holy rituals on an early morning boat ride. Use free time to explore the ghats and laneways of the old town before saying goodbye to this holiest of cities.
