| Overview |
The Langtang trek takes you through forests, farmland, villages and high Himalayan mountains. The deep gorges of the Bhote Koshi and Langtang Khola are thickly forested with rhododendron, oak, maple and alder. The stretch of forest around Ghoda Tabela in the lower Langtang Valley is inhabited by the red panda, a rare and threatened symbol of a healthy Himalayan ecosystem. Other animals common to these forests are wild boar, Himalayan black bear, ghoral, grey languor monkey, leopard, Himalayan thar and musk deer are found in the higher elevations. The spectacular view of the high mountains from Chorkari Ri is one of the highlights of the trek. Most of the people in this area are Buddhist. The Upper Langtang region is inhabited by people of Tibetan descent, whereas the villagers of Dhunche, Bharkhu, Syabru and further down are the Tamang people. Please note: This trek is physically demanding and requires an above average level of fitness. Some trekking experience is recommended. Please discuss your suitability with your consultant if you have any concerns before booking. Please note that for any client opting to pay the single supplement, this covers accommodation in hotels only on the tour, not in tea houses, where single rooms cannot be guaranteed.
