| Overview |
Roll up for a travel adventure that will take you south-east of Siena, a part of Tuscany which even today is undiscovered by most tourists. The path is a fascinating progression across open rolling hills, through a great wealth of different landscapes, to remote medieval villages and walled towns. Southern Tuscany is delightfully sleepy, so come and fall in love with the scenery, serenity and freedom on this journey of discovery.

The traveller may be required to pay the tour leader a small "tour kitty" to cover local expenses. This may or may not apply to this tour. Call if you have questions. |

Days 1-2 Buonconvento to MontalcinoMedieval ramparts enclose the beautiful houses and Renaissance culture of Buonconvento, a small trading town nestled in the cradle of a fertile river valley. Spend time strolling through the town centre, or pass through the imposing northern gate to saunter in sun-kissed Tuscan fields. Choose one of two routes to Montalcino - either through the Brunello vineyards and farmlands or via the famous Benedictine abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. Both trails offer magnificent views of the surrounding hills and the rewards in Montalcino for any tough sections are plenty - it's the home of Brunello di Montalcino wine, after all. Day 3 Montalcino to Bagno VignoniStroll past farms and vineyards, then through shady woods to the truly remarkable village of Bagno Vignoni, truly one of Tuscany's best-kept secrets. In Roman times, however, it was a popular holiday spot - both for the curative properties of its natural spring waters and for its beautiful surroundings. Days 4-5 Bagno Vignoni to PienzaFollow a track beside a river and then gently up across farmlands, past the church of Pieve di Corsignano to the immaculate medieval planned town of Pienza. Enjoy free time to explore and take in the extraordinary views south to Monte Amiata - a fitting last glimpse of gorgeous Tuscany.
