| Overview |
Imagine the sun on your back, the wind in your hair and the promise of vibrant coastal villages and tasty cuisine at the end of each day. Nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees, the Vermilion Coast offers well-defined trails and spectacular scenery. Travel from the eastern corner of France through to Spain and experience the untamed beauty of the mountains plunging into the Mediterranean. Discover sleepy ports, secluded coves, terraced vineyards and stone-walled herb farms as you walk from village to village, sampling regional seafood and wine along the way. Mallorcan kings, Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso were all fond of the Vermillion Coast so take their lead and find a place in the sun.

Day 1 CollioureResting at the foot of the Pyrenees, Collioure has inspired the Fauvist works of Matisse and Picasso, and was also the first choice for the kings of Mallorca wishing to reside on the Vermilion Coast during summer. Walking trails pass through coves and vineyards past farms and lush scenery. Reward a relaxed days' hike with a fine meal at a village bistro - washed down with the local wine of course. Day 2 Banyuls sur MerA hike to the medieval Madeloc Tower reveals an impressive panoramic vista. Journey to Banyuls sur Mer, a town crowned by terraced vineyards and gilded with beautiful beaches. The view from the Chapelle de la Salette is worth the hike and can be rewarded back in the village with a glass of renowned local wine. Day 3 Portbou (Cerbere)Follow picturesque pathways and cross the border into Spain. Explore the historic centre of the town or simply feast on fresh seafood then soak up the sun on the beautiful beaches. Day 4-5 Port de la SelvaFlanked by spectacular coastal scenery, bountiful vineyards and aromatic herb groves, this hike offers a day of blissful walking. With a gorgeous view over every hillock, the ascent of San Salvador will seem a breeze.
Trek through a rugged coastal landscape to Spain's easternmost point to reach the whitewashed town that inspired Salvador Dali. Cadaques is one of the highlights of the Costa Brava, boasting beaches, galleries and medieval architecture. Perhaps celebrate the end of the adventure with a sunset dinner overlooking the water.
