Travel from Rome to Athens via the beautiful Amalfi coast, and explore the buried city of Pompeii, before taking the ferry across to Greece. Heading to Athens we visit the majestic Byzantine Meteora Monasteries built on breathtaking shear grey rock formations. A free day in Athens gives you time to relax or take a tour of this historic city, before you begin your island trek. From Athens, we head over to the island of Naxos. Here we set off on foot to explore some of the beautiful villages of Potamia, and then climb Mt Zas, the highest mountain in the Cyclades. Next island stop is the volcanic island of Santorini where we take an evening trek to the village of Oia, famed for its stunning sunsets. There is free time on this beautiful island with options for volcano and winery tours. On to Crete, where we take a coastal walk to Agia Roumeli, swim in the Libyan Sea, and hike through the mighty Samarian Gorge, said to be the longest and one of the most beautiful gorges in Europe. Our island hop ends back in the vibrant city of Athens.
