Overview
Starting on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, this tour explores the Volcano Arenal area, a great place to do white water rafting, trekking and soak in the local hot springs. We hike through the Monteverde Cloud forest in search of the elusive Quetzal bird, then relax with the sloths and monkeys on the beaches of Manual Antonio National Park. Turning northwards, we travel through Nicaragua and Honduras; learn surfing in San Juan del Sur, hike volcanoes on the island of Ometepe, explore the markets of Granada, and appreciate the architecture of Copan an ancient ruins built by the Maya. We then cross into Guatemala and enjoy the colonial town of Antigua and relax by the shores of Lake Atitlan. Go caving, horse-riding and clamber through waterfalls at Finca Ixobel. Then visit the great Mayan city of Tikal, hidden deep in the Guatemalan jungle where howler monkeys hang out in the tree tops. Finally, we head to those white sandy beaches of the Caribbean starting with the slow pace of life on Caye Caulker in Belize where the snorkeling is fantastic. Our tour ends in the party town of Playa del Carmen in Mexico.
