Days 2-3 Bicheno/Freycinet National ParkLeaving Launceston we head east to St Helens and take a walk on the white sands and orange lichen-covered rocks of the Bay of Fires. Explore Freycinet Peninsula on foot - don't miss secluded Wineglass Bay, voted one of the world's top 10 beaches. Day 4 Port Arthur/HobartVisit the coastal town of Swansea before heading to the tranquil hills and forest of the Tasman Peninsula and historic Port Arthur. Learn about the chilling realities of life as a convict amid the preserved sandstone prison buildings, set on the shores of a beautiful bay. Head to Hobart in the evening. This former penal colony on the picturesque Derwent River is a beautiful place to explore. Day 5 TarraleahTake in the sights of Hobart then head for the hills to visit Tasmania's oldest national park, Mt Field. Hike out to Russell Falls and around Lake Dobson. Explore the Styx Valley, bursting with flora and fauna, and marvel at 10-storey-high gum trees. Day 6 StrahanJourney further into the wilderness with a visit to Lake St Clair, Australia's deepest freshwater lake. Discover Tasmania's beautiful west coast before stopping at quiet Strahan. Wander down to wild Ocean Beach or Hogarth Falls in the evening. Day 7 Cradle MountainJoin the crew on the Lady Jane Franklin for an optional Gordon River Cruise or ride on the West Coast Wilderness Railway before meeting some Tassie devils at a wildlife sanctuary. Day 8 LauncestonHit the trails on a guided walk around Cradle Mountain, surrounded by native deciduous beeches, rainforest, alpine heathland and button grass. On the way to Launceston, stop by a cheese factory and raspberry farm - it's impossible not to indulge.
