| Overview
|
Our in-depth journey through China begins in the majestic city of Beijing where we explore the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Summer Palace and the wonder of the Great Wall away from the tourist hordes. By train we arrive in historic Xian where thousands of Terracotta Warriors lie in wait. In Sichuan Province we stay in Chengdu, visit Pandas and experience it's grotto art and spicy cuisine. The famous 3 Gorges on the Yangtze River are our next stop and the site of the largest construction project in China since the building of the Great Wall. In Shanghai, modern China continues to impress, where fast paced contemporary architecture coexists alongside ancient temples. South of Shanghai we marvel at the soaring peaks of Huangshan and the picture book landscape of Yangshuo, near Guilin. Our final week is spent exploring colourful Yunnan Province. Here we discover the Dongba culture and Naxi people of Dali and Lijiang and marvel at the dramatic natural beauty of Tiger Leaping Gorge before heading to the Tibetan influenced frontier town of Zhongdian, also known as Shangri La.
