| Itinerary |
Days 1-2 BangkokExplore quiet backstreets on a bike to gain insight into life in Bangkok. Tour around in a tuk-tuk, paying a visit to fascinating cultural attractions like the Grand Palace or Wat Pho. Days 3-5 Hilltribe TrekGet back to nature in the thick, green forests of northern Thailand during three days of trekking to hilltribe villages. Hike beneath enormous trees, ramble between emerald rice paddies and dive under rushing waterfalls. Stay in traditional Karen villages, discovering intriguing hilltribe traditions and meeting friendly locals. Days 6-8 Chiang MaiPedal along narrow paths through seldom-visited neighbourhoods surrounding Chiang Ma. After a day spent in the saddle, perhaps soothe muscles by enjoying a soak in a traditional mud bath. Thrill-seekers can also take the opportunity to go rock-climbing at Mae On. After the sun goes down, hit Chiang Mai's popular Night Bazaar and indulge in a fragrant green curry or haggle over brightly coloured bargains. Days 9-11 Kanchanaburi/River KwaiPay homage to those who perished during the construction of the Death Railway before exploring tranquil Kanchanaburi. After getting a history lesson at the Hellfire Pass Memorial, kayak along the River Kwai to see nearby farming villages before spending the night under the stars in a jungle hut. Why not celebrate the penultimate evening of the adventure with a relaxed group dinner. Day 12 BangkokThe journey comes full circle on the busy streets of Bangkok. City sights still wait to be uncovered for those who can stay an extra day or two.
