Day 1 Arrive Chiang MaiHead out on foot to explore chilled-out Chiang Mai. Hit the markets for some bargain hunting, relax with a soothing massage or catch the sunset from the Doi Suthep summit. Day 2 Chiang Mai/Doi Suthep TempleAfter breakfast, head off to visit the temple complex of Doi Suthep to climb the Naga 300 step stairway.
Cycle through green fields following the Ping River downstream. Call in to a former leper colony, now a rehabilitation centre, to gain insight into the activities of the missionaries in days gone by. Continue on to discover the real rural Thailand, cruising past orchards, farms and the occasional colourful village. Meander through small villages and explore the temple ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the former capital of Lan Na, on the way back into town. Day 3 Chiang Mai/Elephant RideGet set for an action packed day riding an elephant through the jungle. Visit colourful hilltribe villages, jump onto a mountain bike and tackle dirt roads to get to the picnic lunch spot. After refuelling, it's time to raft down the Mae Taeng River and its 14 gorges. Day 4 Depart Chiang MaiWith a famous night bazaar and over 300 temples to explore, there's always something to see and do in this cosmopolitan capital of the north.
