Day 1 Chiang Mai/Doi Mae SalongLeave the bustle of Chiang Mai behind and hit the road. Stop in at an elephant camp to watch these gentle giants take their morning bath, before climbing aboard one for a ride through the surrounding forest. Explore the near by Chiang Dao Caves and browse the local markets and soak up the atmosphere of Doi Mae Salong, which is reminiscent of a small southern Chinese village. This area is famous for its Chinese tea traders, so why not sit back and enjoy a cup in a traditional tea house overlooking the mountains. Day 2 Golden TriangleVisit where the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos converge at the infamous Golden Triangle overlooking the Mekong River. Admire the Burmese lacquerware, gems and jade for sale at Mae Sai, the northernmost town in Thailand. Pay a visit to the fascinating opium museum, then climb onboard a longtail boat to travel along the calm waters of the Khong River. Visit an hilltribe village and the old city of Chiang Saen. Day 3 Chiang MaiPay a visit to Chiang Rai's sparkling white Wat Rong Khun before cooling of in the Sankampaeng hot springs. Back in Chiang Mai there's plenty to see and do. Whether lingering at glittering temples, slurping on a spicy curry or haggling over handicrafts, this city offers a treasure trove of unique sights and activities to satisfy any traveller. Call into the famous Night Bazaar to pick up a few last minute bargains or visit Wat Phra Singh to admire its unique Lanna architecture.
