Days 1-2 BangkokGlide along the famous city khlongs in a longtail boat for a great introduction to Bangkok. Visit Bangkok's oldest temple and then board an overnight train bound for Nong Khai. Days 3-4 VientianeCross the mighty Mekong and travel onwards to Vientiane. Scour the market for bargains or wander the gilded Pha That Luang. When bellies rumble, dine at the Intrepid Foundation-supported Makphet Restaurant, a local business that provides education and training to street kids in Vientiane. Days 5-6 Vang ViengHead north to the backpacker mecca of Vang Vieng. Chill out riverside or hire a bike and explore nearby caves. Days 7-9 Luang PrabangPeruse a local arts museum then take a jumbo, Laos' version of a tuk-tuk, out to Kuang Si Falls for a refreshing dip. Day 10 PakseDays 11-12 Si Phan Don Hire a bike to explore the island, famous for its cultivation of coconut and bamboo, or simply laze the day away in a hammock.Day 13 Homestay Visit a silk weaving centre that provides jobs for local women while on the way to Kratie. Get a taste of island life during a local family homestay on Koh Trong.Days 14-15 Phnom Penh Sample fried spiders in Skuon en route to Phnom Penh. In the capital, make a sobering visit to S-21 prison and the Killing Fields.Days 16-19 Siem Reap/Angkor Wat Discover elaborate temples and awe-inspiring architecture.
