Day 1 KunmingTake time to explore the Eternal Spring City, Kunming, capital of the province. Visit the Tang dynasty pagodas or peruse the local restaurants to get a taste of Yunnanese cuisine and culture. Perhaps sample a tasty bowl of across-the-bridge noodles - a regional favourite Days 2-3 DaliRelax in Dali and take in the spectacular views of the surrounding snow-capped mountain peaks. Take a tour of the countryside and visit the colourful markets of the Bai people who sell everything from noodles to ethnic clothing. Days 4-5 LijiangThe World Heritage-listed town of Lijiang is home to the Naxi people, who descend from Tibetan nomads. Stay in the town's atmospheric old quarter and take the chance to visit an ancient house and soak up some culture at a traditional Naxi music performance. There's time to indulge in some more Yunnan-style cuisine or head out into the countryside to catch a glimpse of Jade Dragon Mountain. Day 6 Tiger Leaping GorgePrepare to be wonderstruck by some of the most magnificent scenery in all of China. Tiger Leaping Gorge rises up 3,900 m above the waters of the Yangzi, making it one of the world's deepest gorges. Days 7-8 ZhongdianIn Zhongdian, or Shangri-La as it is now known, visit the massive Ganden Sumtseling Gompa, a Tibetan monastery with hundreds of monks. Spend free time exploring this lovely area by bicycle or local bus. Days 9-10 KunmingReturn to Kunming to delve deeper below the surface and find hidden treasures and delightful sights. Enjoy a final dinner before bidding farewell to wonderful Yunnan.
