Days 1-4 BeijingTravel to China and uncover the treasures of Beijing. Explore Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, once the home of China's great imperial rulers. Marvel at the monumental Great Wall of China, that extraordinary feat of engineering which spans 6,000 km. Enjoy a mouth-watering Peking duck dinner, then work off the feast with a wander through ancient hutongs. Perhaps visit the Summer Palace, snare a bargain at the markets or hire a bicycle and join the locals pedalling around the city. In the evening, why not attend a Beijing opera performance? Days 5-6 Xi'anXi'an has been an important cultural centre for thousands of years, the legacy of which is visible in its many temples, museums and galleries. Visit the iconic Terracotta Warriors, the Bell and Drum towers, the Muslim Quarter as well as the Big Goose Pagoda, an impressive structure built to house Buddhist scriptures. Call into Xi'an Huiling, a special Intrepid-supported project for people with intellectual disabilities, before feasting on a delicious dumpling banquet. Days 7-8 YangshuoThe idyllic countryside surrounding Yangshuo is just begging to be explored. Take an optional cruise down the Li River or hire a bike to explore nearby villages and meet farmers working with their water buffaloes in the fields. Enjoy a guided walk through a local market before learning the secrets of Chinese cooking. In the evening, hit the town and check out Yangshuo's vibrant bar scene. Days 9-12 Shanghai/Water TownGet to know Shanghai from the ground level on a guided walk. Relax in peaceful gardens before marvelling at the agility and flexibility of the Shanghai acrobats at a performance. Take a day trip to a tranquil water town, the perfect place to experience old-world China.
