| Itinerary |
Day 1 Kota KinabaluFlanked by sea and jungle, Sabah's capital Kota Kinabalu is an intoxicating mix of tropical tranquillity and adventure activities - making it the ideal place to kick off Sabah Discovery. Days 2-4 Mt KinabaluAs the tallest mountain in South-East Asia, Mt Kinabalu offers staggering views over the expansive 754-sq km Kinabalu National Park, making the steep climb well worth the effort. The mountain is home to a number of unique plants including the carnivorous pitcher plant and more than 1,000 species of orchid. The rare rafflesia flower also pops its head up during certain seasons - but its distinct odour is generally smelt before it's seen! Days 5-6 Kinabatangan Jungle Camp/HomestayTrek into Sabah's lush interior to learn about forest restoration from our friends at the ecological initiative, MESCOT. Keep an eye out for flying foxes, bearded boars and the funny faces of proboscis monkeys and spend a memorable night lulled to sleep by the sounds of nocturnal creatures. Then spend a night of good company and traditional food in a small Malay village. Day 7 Sepilok Orangutan ReserveGet up close to some primate relatives on a visit to Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, where orphaned and injured orangutans are rehabilitated and returned to forest life. Perhaps take a hike along one of many forest walking trails or travel into vibrant Sandakan city for some excellent seafood and a waterfront sunset. Days 8-10 Kota KinabaluSet off on a day trip to explore the kaleidoscopic underwater world at Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park then return to the seaside guesthouse for some quality pool time. What better way to end the Sabah Discovery.
