| Overview |
"Loi Krathong" - the Festival of Lights - is one of Thailand's oldest and best preserved traditions. It is held on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month, and throughout Thailand, hundreds of thousands of ornately decorated krathong or banana leaf floats carrying candles and incense sticks, are set adrift in rivers and waterways. In Sukhothai province the festival also features a procession of offerings, sound and light show and firework display. This tour takes you not only to the festival in Sukhothai and pre festival celebrations in Chiang Mai, but also to Kanchanaburi, the Bridge over the River Kwai, Hell Fire Pass and the old capital of Siam, Ayutthaya. We have dinner cruising on a rice barge on the Chao Praya River, and stay on a floating raft lodge where there are options to go bamboo rafting and elephant riding at the nearby Mon minority village.
