Overview
Tibet remains one of the most interesting, remote and undeveloped regions of the world. Surrounded by vast mountains, century old caravan trails cross the mysterious landscape through hidden valleys to exotic cities. Also known as 'The Roof of the World', this mysterious Buddhist kingdom remained long closed to foreigners, exerting a stronghold on people's imaginations and giving appeal to travellers to visit Tibet at least once in their lifetime. Our journey starts with a spectacular flight over the Himalayas from Kathmandu to Lhasa, where we visit the Potala Palace, once home to the Dalai Lama, Sera and Drepung Monastaries, as well as the Summer Palace of Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple and the bustling Barkor Market. Crossing the arid Tibetan plateau we come to Gyantse and Shigatse, visiting the Kumbum and Tahilumpo Monastery, and then over the Gyatmso La Pass, the highest point in our journey at 5220m on our way to Shegar. Crossing the Pang La Pass will give spectacular views of the Himalayas. From Rongbuk Monastery, we walk to the Base Camp of the highest mountain in the world - Everest or 'Quomolangma' as it is known in Tibetan, another highlight of the trip. We then journey to Zhangmu across the spectacular Lalung La and Nyalamu Passes. From there we head back to Kathmandu via the Friendship Bridge. Please note: We will need your full passport details and copy of your Passport at the time of booking in order to apply for your Tibet visa and book your flight to Lhasa. All passengers will need to hand in their passports to the tour leader at the pre-departure meeting on day one, to enable us to obtain the visa. Please note that the cost of the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa must be paid for in full at the time of payment of the tour deposit. The flight cost is non-refundable. The cost of the flight is included in the tour price, and will be deducted from the tour balance once paid. Please contact Mondo Adventure Travel reservations for further details on prices. This tour is suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness and mobility. The trek to Everest Base Camp is strenuous because of altitude. Please discuss your suitability with your consultant if you have any concerns before booking.
