| Overview |
The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest wonders of the world, and one of the greatest architectural achievements of man. It was built over 2000 years ago, stretches approximately 6,700 kilometres from east to west China, and in 1987 it was enlisted as a World Heritage UNESCO site. The Great Wall winds its way across grasslands, deserts, mountains and plateaux, and although many sections of the wall are now in ruins, it is still one of the most breathtaking sights of China. This tour gives you the chance to hike along several sections of the Great Wall, with stunning views of the Yangshan Mountains and surrounding valleys. Whilst on the trek, we stay in local simple inns. We also explore the East Qing Tombs, and take in some of the main sights of Beijing such as the Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven. After our trek, we take a bicycle tour of Beijing including Tiananmen Square and the small traditional alleyways of the Hutongs, giving us a fascinating insight into the ancient culture of China's capital.
