| Overview
|
The Lofoten Orca voyages take place in the northern autumn, when the days are getting shorter in northern Norway. The autumn colours will be beautiful during the day time and at night, we will hope to admire the spectacular Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). This is a wonderful introduction to coastal Norway and the beautiful fjords, islands and wildlife in this region. In the second half of October and in November we have good chances to see Orca, that scour these fjords to hunt for Herring. We shall also enjoy the area on foot with walks to view Stone Age petroglyphs, Sea Eagles and historical villages such as Kabelvaag and Henningsvaer, the Norwegian Venice. Our small group of 20 passengers will sail aboard the basic but comfortable schooner, the Noorderlicht. Manned by a skilled crew and expert naturalist/expedition leader, this voyage involves some participation with the handling of sails, taking the helm or being on watch during the night. The Lofoten voyages are dependent on the weather and the sea conditions, therefore the itinerary is only an outline.
