10 things you must see/do in Central AsiaMondo's Central Asia

Kazakhstan - Rent some skates and skate the largest speed skating rink in the world in Medeu where over 120 world records in ice skating and ice hockey have been set. You can also  take in an ice hockey game at Ust-Kamenogorsk.

Kazakhstan - Explore the Inylchek Glacier reaching almost 60 kms in length with the beautiful Mertzbakher Lake at its centre.

Uzbekistan - Cycle the Silk Road from Tashkent to Lake Aidarkul.

Uzbekistan - Visit the beautiful city of Samarkland, home to an amazing collection of ancient monuments and see the site where Alexander the Great slayed his friend.

Kyrgyzstan - Swim the second largest alpine lake in the world around Lake Issyk Kol which was closed to tourists during the Soviet Era but be careful since the lake sits at 1300-1600 meters and a few days in the sun can do more damage to your skin than a week at sea level.

Kyrgyzstan - Live the nomadic lifestyle and stay with a local family in a yurt located in the high altitude summer pastures. Here you would be welcomed with open arms, warm smiles and a good hearty breakfast.

Tajikistan - Visit the remains of the Buddhist temples near Kurgan Tyube in the south, from which the biggest Buddha in Central Asia was recovered. The Buddha is now stored in 60 pieces in Dushanbe.
 
Tajikistan - Visit the Monday market at Dushanbe, the capital. it was from here that Brezhnev launched his invasion of Afghanistan.

Turkmenistan - Book a day trip to the underground mineral lake fed by hot springs at Kov Ata, one of the biggest caves of the Kopetdag mountains. It is an unusual natural site since at first glance it looks like a magnificent auditorium.

Turkmenistan - Start your day visiting the biggest carpet in the world (as per the Guiness Book of Records) at the Carpet Museum in Ashkhabad and learn about the history of famous Turkman carpet weaving.
